Time to relax. In the afternoon private city tour with your guide..

SANTIAGO The towering Andes provide an awesome backdrop for the sprawling metropolis of Santiago. The population of this flat urban stage that spreads out from a compact city centre numbers more than five million. Despite this, a small town atmosphere prevails downtown where friends will more than likely meet and greet each other in the overcrowded streets and bustling walkways of the main commercial district.

The city is a curious mix of skyscrapers and 19th-century European architecture, with some Spanish adobe bungalows thrown in for good measure. Threaded through this architectural tapestry are numerous green areas, busy markets, and quaint old squares. Street life is vibrant, and adding to the vibe is the presence of numerous chic sidewalk cafes, outside of which traditionally dressed women hawk their wares hoping to catch the eye of the tourists. There are also some small but impressive museums, several modern hotels, excellent restaurants and some good shopping opportunities in the Ahumada and Huerfanos pedestrian malls. The city exudes an aura of health and wealth in the inner city and fashionable suburbs, despite the shabby shantytowns stretching out from behind the skyscraper facade. The city is also one of the 10 most severely polluted cities in the world, thanks to its position in a bowl of mountains. It is nevertheless an excellent base in which to spend a relaxing few days taking excursions to the wineries, national parks and ski areas, which are all within easy reach of the city.

Located on mythical Easter Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, explora en Rapa Nui –Posada de Mike Rapu– is now open. The hotel is located on a hill in the Te Miro Oone sector, on 9.6 hectares of land that faces the sea. The hotel is situated in the southwestern zone of the island, 5.6 km from Hanga Roa – the only town on the island – and it acts as a base for exploring this attractive and mysterious island, home to a culture whose origins and evolution remain unexplained. Volcanic rock, native to the island and always used by the island’s inhabitants in construction, and wood from the mainland are the principal materials. The hotel has 30 guestrooms that spread out from central areas that house reception, living areas, a bar, kitchen and services. Next to the common areas is the Casa de Baņos Hare Vai, with a pool, massage salon and open-air Jacuzzis.

EXPLORATIONS: Visitors to Explora Rapa Nui may participate in our diverse explorations that are organized according to group size and guest preference.

Every day, we offer easy to more difficult walks that, one by one, unveil the secrets and beauty of the island. These walks are combined with picnics on rocky outcrops or along the shore, always in mesmerizing sites. Each day guests may choose between 5 or more different explorations that are selected according to climatic conditions, guests’ preferences, length and difficulty. The group size maximum is 8 people, along with a bilingual guide who brings along all necessary equipment.

5° day – Saturday 18 July 2009 Easter Island (breakfast, lunch and dinner)

EASTER ISLAND

Rapa Nui, or 'Navel of the Earth' as the natives know it, is one of the world's most isolated places, situated 2,361 miles (3,800km) west of mainland Chile. With its location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and home to a culture whose origins and evolution are still largely unknown, Easter Island is an attractive and mysterious destination. A mild year-round climate allows for walking the island’s geography and traveling along the coast of numerous ahus that are home to the gigantic sculptures called moai. Who, when and why were these sculptures created? It is a mystery. It is presumed that the island has been inhabited since the earliest centuries of our times, and the moai are hundreds of years old. Today visitors can share with the descendents of this ancient culture and who preserve their ancestral customs in the face of the advancement of Western civilization.

It is practically an open-air national park protecting the archaeological sites and Moai, the giant stone statues that the island is famous for, which are scattered all over the landscape. These figures stand at heights of up to 32 feet (10m) and are at the centre of the island's magnetism. There is still uncertainty as to the origins of the first people on Rapa Nui, and the 12 centuries between their arrival in 500 AD and the first European discoverers in 1722 remains one of the world's great mysteries. Included among the archaeological sites on the island is the Rano Raraku volcano where the moai were cut from the volcanic rock. In a bizarre scene, over 600 figures are scattered on the slopes of the volcano, some in the early stages of development and still part of the rocky cliffs and others partly buried or stacked in an irregular line. For years researchers have puzzled over the method of construction and transportation of these megaliths from the quarries inland to their present day coastal positions. It is the mystery of the unknown artisans and the intriguing remainder of their awesome work that continues to draw researchers and tourists from around the world today. Most of the island's 2,000 inhabitants live in the main town Hanga Roa. It has accommodation, restaurants and transport as well as a museum on the Rapa Nui people and their history.

6° day – Sunday 19 July 2009 Easter Island/Papeete (breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Another day to relax or explore: it’s just your decision!

In the evening transfer to the airport in time for flight LA (LAN AIRLINES) to Papeete.

Meet your private guide and vehicle and transfer to your accommodation.

Overnight at INTER-CONTINENTAL RESORT TAHITI (PANORAMIC ROOM).

INTER-CONTINENTAL RESORT TAHITI

The hotel offers 107 rooms in its main buildings, broken down into three different categories: 18 Standard Rooms, 75 Garden View Rooms (one of which is wheelchair accessible) with a view of the colorful tropical gardens and finally 14 Lagoon View Rooms offering a superb view of the lagoon and Tahiti's twin island Moorea.  These rooms all boast a spacious 307 sq ft, not counting the balcony, and may be obtained with a king size bed or two twin beds.

The hotel's main restaurant is open from 5.30 am to 10.00 pm every day with continuous service all meals. The Tiare with its open kitchen is the heart of the hotel's ground floor, looking out over our stage, infinity pool, waterfalls and Moorea's spectacular silhouette and mountains. The decor style is authentic, Tahitian, and it's here that the dinner shows take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the last two by the famous "Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti". The menu ranges from light snacks and healthy salads to fresh fish specialities and specially selected meats from New Zealand. Refined and creative cuisine for lunch (12.30 - 2.30 pm) and dinner (6.30 - 9.30 pm) daily. Le Lotus is at the secluded far end of the resort grounds with a captivating atmosphere under a thatched roof and over the lagoon waters. It's the most romantic setting with views out to Moorea and soft piano music playing in the evening (Wednesday to Sunday). Here you can be tempted by gourmet menus including dishes inspired by our association with leading French restaurant, L'Auberge de l'Ile (3 star Michelin rated). You will no doubt appreciate the finesse and creativity of the cuisine, complemented of course by fine French wines. Open from 10.00 am to midnight daily, our main bar, the Tiki, located close to the Restaurant, is a popular rendezvous for locals too, particularly for its' evening musical entertainment. This is where you can sip your favourites beverage or try an exotic tropical concoction served in a pineapple or coconut shell as you watch the sun drops behind the peaks of Moorea.. Appreciate our swim-up bar at the Lotus pool and take the opportunity to try one of our famous cocktails whilst realxing in this stunning environment. Finally, our Lobby Bar is open all night so as to cater to your every need. Considered as the most talented dance group of the island, "Les Grands Ballets" draw rave reviews for their freshly choreographed versions of traditional dances from the different archipelagos, dances once considered so sensuous that they were banned by the missionaries! They have been at the forefront of the renaissance of Tahitian dance culture and successfully performed overseas. The InterContinental's Tiare Restaurant is their local stage for two thrilling dinner shows each week - on Fridays and Saturdays.

The activities desk located in the reception area will be pleased to provide information on all land and water activities available at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort.  Bathy's Diving, situated at the very heart of the hotel offers numerous exciting and novel activities in a safe environment which will make you stay both thrilling and unforgettable. A PR desk will be delighted to assist you in booking various excursions. All team is at your disposal to make your stay unforgettable. LAGOONARIUM This natural aquarium that we have built for the pleasure of our visitors is unique in the South Pacific. When building the “Fare I’a reserve”, it has been recreated the natural under water conditions found in the ocean by providing a constant flow of sea water where we have introduced corals, shells and tropical fish. We have now over 200 sea species of all sizes and colours.

Finally You'll love to shop for local handcrafts, colorful pareus and maybe one of the famous tahitian black pearls. For your convenience, we have two boutiques right in the resort plus a daily craft market. You will be minutes away from Papeete, home to the biggest collection of shops in French Polynesia, and its colorful Market.

7° day – Monday 20 July 2009 Papeete/Raiatea-Taha’a (breakfast and dinner)

Breakfast at the hotel INTER-CONTINENTAL RESORT TAHITI.

Time at disposal to visit Papeete or the Island of Tahiti.

Tahiti, Otahiti for the first Europeans, the “Island of Love”, the “New Cyther” for Bougainville, the myth of paradise, of Rousseau’s “good savage”, all those names to describe the same beauty of this island, symbol just by itself of the entire French Polynesia. Two volcanos emerged from the waters compose the island of Tahiti : 3-million year old for the Tahiti Nui (the Big Tahiti) volcano, and only 500,000 years for the one of Tahiti Iti (the Little Tahiti). Those two extinct volcanoes are joined together by the Taravao isthmus. Not only one of the most recent island of Polynesia, Tahiti is also the largest (1,045 square kilometres) and the most populated (150,371 persons). Beware ! Expected white sand beaches bordered by coconut trees and overwater bungalows will be encountered at Bora Bora or in the Tuamotu islands rather than Tahiti. However, Tahiti is full of pleasant surprises for those taking the time to observe it and to discover its secrets… Tahiti is also the economic heart of French Polynesia. Papeete, its capital, is built along a friendly waterfront (recently renovated) welcoming many shops and luxury ships. It is the unique city at 4,000 kilometres around (!!) and one will find here everything he needs, market (a must), jewellers, bars, nightclubs, restaurants (French, Chinese, Italian...), hospitals…

Tahiti and Her Islands are considered as a real floral paradise. Everyday, Polynesian people wear at least one flower behind their ear or stuck into a bun. Other wear crowns for all occasions and add a garland of flowers to give a festive air to their clothes.

Last but not least, flowers are a greeting sign, as you will see when you arrive in Tahiti Airport: you will be given the traditional Tiare Tahiti. You will have to know what to do of this flower ! Actually a true "language of flowers" exists in Polynesia, so here is some advice to avoid any mistakes Worn behind your right ear, it means you are single, available.

Worn behind your left ear : you are married, engaged or otherwise taken.

Worn behind both ears : you are married but still available.

Worn backward behind your ear : you are available immediately.

Through the years, the Tahitian gardenia (Tiare Tahiti) has become one of the main emblems of French Polynesia and is largely used in design and advertising (bank, airline…). Its snowy-white colour, as well as its subtle fragrance, may be one of the reasons why it is so prized. Largely reproduced on the materials used to make the very famous "floral shirts", the Hibiscus is also an emblem of the South-Sea islands. Its various colours and sizes -from the little to the big ones, its petals sometimes in double row or finely chiselled will amaze you and we bet you will wear it soon !

Taha'a - The Vanilla Island

Taha'a, with the rich aroma of vanilla lingering heavily in the air, offers a glimpse of the traditional, tranquil life of the Tahitians. The flower-shaped island's simple beauty is charmed by soft mountain shapes and surrounded by tiny motu with bright sand beaches. In the fertile valleys cutting within the island, local farmers grow watermelon, vanilla, and copra.

11° day – Friday 24 July 2009 – Raiatea (breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Exploration of Raiatea Lagoon and visit to a vanilla plantation.

Raiatea - The Sacred Island

Raiatea, meaning "faraway heaven" and "sky with soft light", was first named Havai'i after the homeland of the ancient Polynesians and is the most sacred island in the South Pacific.

This, the second largest Tahitian isle, was the centre of religion and culture over 1000 years ago and still lends enchantment to ancient legends told to this day. The green-carpeted mountains include the celebrated Mt. Temehani, a sort of Polynesian Mt. Olympus.

12° day – Saturday 25 July 2009 – Bora Bora (breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Sailing to Bara Bora and exploration of Bora Bora Lagoon.

Bora Bora, The Romantic Island

Under a one hour flight from the island of Tahiti or Moorea, the island of Bora Bora, with a lagoon resembling an artist's palette of blues and greens, is love at first sight.

Romantics from around the world have laid claim to this island where the castle-like Mount Otemanu pierces the sky. Lush tropical slopes and valleys blossom with hibiscus, while palm-covered motu circle the illuminated lagoon like a delicate necklace. Perfect white-sand beaches give way to emerald waters where coloured fish animate the coral gardens as they greet the giant manta rays. This could be easily be described as the centre of the romantic universe, where luxury resorts and spas dot the island with overwater bungalows, thatchedroof villas, and fabled ambience.

Simply said, Bora Bora is the most beautiful island in the world.

Pora Pora - the ancient name, meaning "first born," came from legends describing this as the first island to rise when Taaroa, the supreme god, fished it out of the waters after the mythical creation of Havai'i, now known as Raiatea. Although the first letter "B" does not exist in the Tahitian language, when Captain Cook first heard the name he mistook the softened sound of the Tahitian "P" for "B" and called the island Bola Bola.
